    Dear DCYC Family,

First, let me thank everyone who has been volunteering to make this a great event.  Also each of you that have signed up to participate in the 2019 Corinthian Heritage Cup Regatta.  It means a great deal to me and the other volunteers that so many have chosen our regatta for competing with each other and sharing good times during our annual party.

Without any further beating around the mark, I must inform you that we are postponing the Corinthian Heritage Cup until later in the year. Tentatively, we are looking at the weekend of July 13 for the new date.  This will be discussed in the upcoming board meeting, so let some of your Board of Governors know what you think.

For those of you that have already paid, we will be returning your payments in the next few days (I do not know how long it takes to get these reimbursements to go through from Regatta Network, but I will work very hard to make it happen as quickly as possible).

If you are one of the J/24 racers, the District 14 Southwest Championship will be moved to the Corpus Christi Circuit Stop scheduled for June 15-16 in Corpus Christi, TX and you will soon receive more information about that from Tonja Holmes-Moon and John Parker.

In making this decision, I and other regatta chairs from prior years looked at a lot of data from the Army Corps of Engineers and spoke with several of the marina operators in the area.  We also made several phone calls to mobile crane operators and officials at the two remaining (open) boat ramps on the lake in a desperate effort to find a safe way to continue with this regatta.  As of this afternoon, we have been left with no options and have made our final decision.

Lewisville Lake has never dropped faster than 4" per day, and that is only when the flood gates are wide open at 6,000+ cfs (cubic feet per second).  Currently they are at 3,640 cfs, but with the upstream inflow, the net release is ~ 1,840 cfs.  Even under the very best conditions, the lake will still be over 524.5 ft. which is still too high to operate safely.  Most likely, with the flooding along the Trinity River and rain expected next week, the level will be above 525.5 ft.

Please accept my sincerest apologies and feel free to reach out to me if you have questions or do not see your payment returned within the next 10 days.

Based on her recent competitive successes, DCYC's own Lucija Ruzevic just learned that she has been invited to participate in the US Sailing's Olympic Development Program Training Camp to be held in June. This is on the heels of her securing a second place finish for the Youth Sailing World Championships. She was also one of just a few youth to received early acceptance to sail in the US Sailing Youth Championships in New Jersey this summer.  On a local level, Lucija founded a sailing team at Denton High School which can compete in the Interscholastic Sailing Association.

Way to sail hard, Lucija! We are so proud of you!

March statements from Dallas Corinthian Yacht Club have been made available via email.  In that email you have the option to pay your statement, at home or on your phone, without any extra handling charges.  Since rolling out the new payments system, our A/R has dropped by 50%, which is an Intuit Giant lift for our club's activities.

Please join me in a special shout out and thanks to our Treasurer, Laura, our Accountant, Suzanne, and our Accounting Consultant, Carol for putting in some very long hours to make this happen!  Salute!

If you didn't get yours, feel free to reach out to me and we'll get your email address corrected, pronto

In 1998, Chris Favors replaced a short-lived, rudimentary, single webpage created by a former member with a fully-fleshed out website, thus legitimately launching DCYC forward into the still burgeoning World Wide Web. For twelve years and after a seemingly endless amount of HTML coding, he moved the needle again in 2010 when he relaunched the site in the Wild Apricot platform, an option that allowed for multiple administrators and event management. Fast-forward to 2017 when, with the future of the club firmly in mind, James Hankins and Jeff Ellefson included in their budget proposal a few thousand dollars for “working on the website and social media.” Today, we are officially unveiling the fruits of that investment.

Thanks to the efforts of David Meek, we secured the services of a well-respected website developer with great experience in the Wild Apricot platform to which we subscribe. The MergeCreative team was well positioned to take the best advantage of the hot-off-the-presses updates just released from the Wild Apricot engineers. They created a contemporary site, every page of which is optimized for mobile experience (seriously, they slaved over this part).

We are all painfully aware of how fast technology is moving, but it’s with a great deal of pride that we can make the claim that today’s site will serve the club for several years to come.

Efforts like this always represent a colossal team effort. When we committed to having a professional website developer rework the site, we pulled together a team to help guide the stylistic and organizational choices being made; this committee gave terrific feedback on the site and made excellent suggestions things they would like to see added, many of which we still hope to incorporate in the future. Our sincere thanks to Barbara Hoskins, Kim Dickey,Heather Fahle, Kendra Favors, Kathy Harden, and Lara Ruzevic for sharing their time, energy, and unflagging patience.

We “soft-launched” the site on Tuesday, March 12th, at which point we asked the department heads and chairs to thoroughly review the content specific to their areas. We are so grateful for the updates and suggestions we received from our content reviewers: Chris Dickey, Tim JohnsonDave LorenatCharles HoffmanMichele DitmerJames FreedmanAndrew TheismanJohn LuskCarolyn & Darrel JanssenDarren HillKristin LyonPauline Chetelat, and David Patterson.

Of course, the MergeCreative team has performed nothing short of brilliantly. The work they put into  the website far exceeded what their contract dictated. These guys epitomize the under-promise, over-deliver ethic. If you appreciate this update, please consider thanking them with a quick five-star ranking in their Google listing. (Click the "Write a Review" button in lower-left corner.)

To come full circle, none of this would be possible without the foresight and herculean efforts of Chris Favors, our beloved emeritus webmaster. As you might imagine, his stamp of approval was of paramount importance to me personally; I am beyond relieved and grateful to say that he has blessed the update to his original site. Thank you, Chris.

And with that, we are pleased to announce that the newest iteration of the DCYC website is officially unveiled and ready for you <cue massive virtual balloon and confetti drop>.

If you have any questions or feedback about the website, I am happy to help.
