Adult Sailing Classes
The Dallas Corinthian Yacht Club (DCYC) and the Dallas Corinthian Educational Fund (DCEF) offer an Adult Basic Sailing Course, for DCYC members and non-members conducted over two consecutive weekends. The course is comprehensive with two-thirds of the instruction on the water. This is not a beginner adult sailing class, but even a beginner can learn the skills necessary to safely handle a keelboat up to 25’ in length by taking this class. This is also a good refresher and fundamentals class for the “experienced” sailor.
Our basic sailing course for adults is held over two consecutive weekends on Saturday and Sunday starting the first Saturday of the month. Classes start at 9:00 am and end at about 1:00 pm on Saturday then restart at 1:30pm to 5:30 pm on Sunday. Minimum class size is three and maximum is six.
This will be an ASA / BoatUS style, 15+ hour, Keelboat 101 class. The final exam consists of two parts, a written exam then demonstration of the skills learned. This one to two-hour day sail is with the instructor acting as unskilled crew
Upon completion a diploma will be issued, and the student should feel confident in taking a 25-27' boat out in fair wind condition.
Because of COVID-19, the classroom portion of the class will be held via Zoom. There will be temperature checks and a mask requirement while on DCYC grounds. Masks may be removed once we leave the dock. Questions, contact Captain Doug.
Costs includes textbook, class materials and training boats.
Classes are limited to 6 students, minimum 3 students.
